Hi,
You should file Form 1040NR (Non-Resident Alien Income Tax Return) to report your U.S. income, even if your employer withheld the correct amount of tax. The filing deadline is April 15, 2025.
As a Canadian tax resident, you’re required to report your worldwide income, including any foreign income earned in the U.S., on your Canadian tax return. To avoid double taxation (paying taxes in both Canada and the U.S.), Canada provides a foreign tax credit. The taxes you paid to the U.S. can generally be claimed as a credit against your Canadian taxes, reducing your Canadian tax liability by the amount of U.S. tax already paid. This helps to prevent double taxation on the same income.
